This award began in 1997 and has been held annually since then.
Its purpose is to promote and publicize the highest quality Spanish extra virgin olive oils and encourage producers to obtain and market quality oils.
The 3 modalities that this award includes are:
- Bitter green fruity.
- Sweet green fruity.
- Ripe fruity.
The Special Prize "Food from Spain Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil" will be awarded to the oil that has obtained the best score in the tasting phase and in the physical-chemical assessment of the three established modalities.
